Friends of the Middle School donate Gaga pit to Pine River Area Schools
The
4-5th grade playground at Pine River Upper Elementary (part of the
4-7th grade middle school), have a new piece of playground equipment
thanks to a donation from the Friends of the Middle School. Mrs. Holly
Lockhart, middle school math teacher and FMS chairperson, shares the following story:
As
you may have heard from our students, the PR Middle School playground
has an awesome new gaga pit! The FMS used their funds to have this built
by a local contractor, Sikkema Construction. Steve Sikkema used
composite decking instead of treated lumber for the walls to make this
structure safe for our children as well as long lasting. The corner
brackets and supports were designed and fabricated by another local
business, Lockhart Fabrication and Mechanical, LLC., owned by
Christopher Lockhart. The gaga pit sits on concrete, but has a thick
rubber floor to protect hands from getting scraped up. We believe our
students will respect and appreciate this equipment, helping it to
sustain many years of fun play. Thanks to everyone involved in making
this possible for our kids!

Pine River Area School Proudly Announces 50th Anniversary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pine River Area School Proudly Announces 50th Anniversary
March 23, 2015
Anniversary and Naming of District
On April 15, 1965, the community school districts of Luther, LeRoy, and Tustin voted to consolidate. At the inaugural meeting of the district, held on April 26, 1965, the new Board of Education narrowed down the choices and named the district Pine River Area Schools.
In order to recognize this important and historic anniversary, Superintendent of Schools, Matt Lukshaitis, is pleased to announce an Open Invitation to the Pine River Area Schools Boards of Education, Superintendents & Administrators, Teachers, and all Support and Office Staff from the 1965-66 through 1978-1979 school years. The Class of 1979 would be the first class where it would have been possible to attend from Kindergarten through graduation and so this seems a natural parameter for invitations. “We want to recognize the strength of character that went into consolidation and the building up of the Pine River Area Schools. Fifty years ago, our communities decided to pool their resources in order to better serve students. That took forward thinking and a democratic process which most likely included some compromise and deep discussions.”
April 27 Pine River Area Schools Celebration
Lukshaitis stated, “We are hitting the big 5-0! Fifty years and still going strong is something special. We want to celebrate. On April 27, 2015, at 5:00 p.m., we are conducting an Anniversary Celebration, which includes an ice cream social for those who can attend. We are inviting all employees from the fall 1965 to the spring of 1979. We’d love to see everyone who can, attend!”
The Board will recognize all those who can be at the celebratory workshop before reopening for Board business. “This is a great opportunity to give ourselves a round of applause for all the hard work these past fifty years. As a result of that hard work, our kids have a terrific school system,” added Lukshaitis. “We want to make some time for folks to say hello to each other, reflect together,
and maybe even tour the facilities. It is just a great time to be a Pine River Buck!”
Those who can attend or wish for more information should contact the Pine River Area Schools business office at 231-829-3141.
Folks who may know the contact information for someone who has moved out of the area are encouraged to contact the District as well.

PARENT/GUARDIAN COMMUNICATION—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
From the
Superintendent’s Desk:
PARENT/GUARDIAN
COMMUNICATION—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 17, 2015
Pine River Area
Schools announces that we received information this morning that one of our
district students has a family member in the home diagnosed with Shigella. This is an intestinal infection caused by the
Shigella bacteria. Two family members attend
school with Pine River, one in the lower elementary building and one in 5th
grade. These children are not currently
in attendance as a precaution while we disinfect and sanitize—neither one of
these children has been diagnosed with Shigella or its symptoms.
According to
Health Department officials, the best precautions are thorough hand washing and
disinfecting the bathrooms. Shigella is
transmitted through the skin via direct contact and so we encourage you and our
students to take part in rigorous hand washing with hot water and a
disinfecting soap. District custodians are
actively disinfecting and sanitizing the bathrooms, hallways, and horizontal
surfaces in all classrooms as a precaution.
It is important
to know that NO student or staff member of Pine River Area Schools has been
diagnosed with Shigella. We are simply
providing information and taking early precautions.
If you become
aware of an infection in your home, please contact one of the school offices at
your earlier opportunity.
Thank you.
